Husson Honors Seniors; Defeats Becker
Bangor, ME -- On a day in which Husson University honored
it’s football seniors, one stood above the rest.
Julius “Juice” Williams (Sr., Boston,
MA) scored two touchdowns and amassed 250 yards on 16
carries. Williams' two touchdowns were Husson’s first two of
the day, and the Eagles would not look back, defeating the Hawks of
Becker College 74-22.
After a turnover on downs by the Hawks on the first possession of
the game, the Eagles took over on their offensive 41 yard line and
would only need five plays to reach the end zone, the fifth of
which being a 6 yard scamper by Williams to put Husson on the
board. A little over four minutes later Williams and the Eagles
would find the end zone again, this time from two yards out, on the
fourth play of a 76 yard drive, putting Husson up 14-0. The Eagles
would go on to score at least 14 points in each quarter including
Mike Toothaker’s (Jr., Wilton, ME) 3
touchdowns and 112 yards on the day.
The Hawks were lead by the two-headed rushing attack of Kevin
Portee (Fy., Worcester, MA) who had 122 yards on 6 carries
and Jimmy Chery (Jr., Malden MA) picking up 93 yards on 20
carries.
Husson accumulated 686 total yards, 552 of which on the ground, as
Jack Hersom (So., Sidney, ME) threw for 134 yards
on just 5 out 7 passing attempts. The Hawks gained 299 yards on the
ground collectively and threw for another 160 yards unfortunately
with not much to show for the effort.
Williams, on Saturday, became the only player in school history to
break the 1,000 yard mark in more than one season and over the fall
has become the schools all-time leading rusher with over 3,500
yards.
With the win the Eagles improve to 4-5 over and 3-3 in their first
season in the ECFC and Becker drops to 0-10, 0-6 in the ECFC
respectively.
