Colby Edges Eagles In Home Opener

In a hard fought loss, Colby beat Husson 2-1 under the lights at the Winkin Complex.   Meryl Poulin (Jr., Cape Elizabeth, ME) paced Colby with the game winning goal and an assist. 

Poulin's game winning goal came with 15:09 left in the game.  Hannah O'Brien (So., Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) served the corner to the top of the circle and Meghan Saccone (Sr., Andover, MA) found Poulin in front of the net for the only goal of the second half.

 Colby controlled possession for the first five minutes of the game.  Following a Colby goal by (Kelly Roth, So) scoring at 4:26, Husson rallied with 4 consecutive corners and two excellent scoring opportunities.   

The Eagles responded 17 minutes later with a goal scored by Courtney Allen who took advantage of the Colby goalie off her line.  Allen was the last to touch the ball as it slowly rolled across Colby's goal line.  Play was closely matched between the Eagles and Mules throughout the remainder of the game.

Colby's goalie, Liz Fontaine (Jr., Wilbraham, MA) finished the game with 6 saves while Husson's goalie Kristen Capen (Fy., Leeds, ME) recorded 5 saves.  Husson's Sophomore defender Caroline Bochtler (Turner, ME) made a key defensive save with less than a minute to go in the first half keeping the game tied into halftime.   

Both teams return to action Saturday, September 19.  Husson travels to Rivier at 12:00pm while Colby plays at Wesleyan.
