Eagles Shut Out Green Mountain
Poultney, VT - A Green Mountain own-goal in the 19th minute proved to be enough as the visiting Husson University Eagles picked up North Atlantic Conference victory Saturday afternoon on a rain soaked pitch. Husson improves to 5-8-1 (2-0-1, NAC) while GMC remains winless at 0-9-1.
The opening minutes were scrappy, as both sides tried to settle into the match while dealing with the difficult field conditions. Husson earned the first opportunity when a low service from the left by-line popped free in front of GMC's goal where a defender, in an effort to scuttle the ball to safety, turned it into his own goal, giving Husson a 1-0 lead.
The visiting side would add a 2nd goal in the 37th when Justin Gauvin (Woolrich, ME) broke free of his defender on a corner and headed home.
Husson tallied the final goal of the afternoon mere seconds into the final 45 minutes when Alex Martin (Van Buren, ME) slipped a ball over onrushing GMC freshman goalkeeper Nate Kishbaugh (Niskayuna, NY). James Crawford was instrumental in the goal, collecting a ball near midfield and cleverly bending a ball between a pair of defenders to spring Martin into open space.
Husson returns to the pitch tomorrow at Castleton. Gametime is set for 12:00 and can be viewed live online on the Northeast Sports Network by clicking here.
